Trainer Mode

TrainerMode with MX-20 HoTT and MX-16

Mostly every transmitter can be used as a Trainer mode-transmitter. Both transmitter will be connected over a Trainer mode-cable.
This can be e.g. a one-to-one mono or stereo cable (2x Cinch-Plug 3,5mm).
So different functions can be transferred to the pupil-transmitter.
Normally the first four channels are transferred to control the flight models. All other channels with it's function can be transferred too.
This can be also e.g. the control of a camera and the camera-mount.

In the following example two channels should be passed to the pupil-transmitter. The first channel to control the Nick-movement of the camera mount, the second channel to trigger the camera.
Both transmitter will be connected over a Trainer mode-cable.

In the following example a MX-20 HoTT with 12 channels is used as a trainer-transmitter and a MX-16s with 8 channels as a pupil-transmitter.
The pupil-transmitter have only 8 channels. So we can only send the first 8 channels of the trainer-transmitter.
If a 12-channel transmitter is used as a pupil-transmitter all 12 channels can be transferred from the teacher-transmitter.

Here now an Example Listing of the channel allocation at the trainer-transmitter MX-20 HoTT to control the MikroKopter:

  • Channel 1: Throttle

  • Channel 2: Roll

  • Channel 3: Nick

  • Channel 4: Yaw

  • Channel 5: Altitude regulator

  • Channel 6: GPS

  • Channel 7: CareFree

  • Channel 8: Nick camera mount (should be passed to the pupil-transmitter)

  • Channel 9: Roll camera mount

  • Channel 10: Camera trigger (should be passed to the pupil-transmitter)

  • Channel 11: Free

  • Channel 12: Free

The channel 8 to control the nick movement of the camera mount can be passed directly.
But not channel 10 to trigger the camera with a shuttercable.
So the trigger function need to be set up on a different channel.

In example: To have a channel free the altitude regulator is placed on the same channel of the GPS.
This has an advantage, if the 3-way switch of the GPS is switched to PositionHold or ComingHome, the height control is also automatically enabled.
(The altitude regulator can be also set up on an other free channel.)

  • {i} Those settings can be stored in other setting-memories (e.g. in Setting 5).

Now the free channel 5 can be used for the trigger:

  • Channel 1: Throttle

  • Channel 2: Roll

  • Channel 3: Nick

  • Channel 4: Yaw

  • Channel 5: Camera trigger

  • Channel 6: GPS + Altitude regulator

  • Channel 7: CareFree

  • Channel 8: Nick camera mount

  • Channel 9: Roll camera mount

  • Channel 10: Free

  • Channel 11: Free

  • Channel 12: Free

In that way the conditions for the transfer of both functions to the pupil-transmitter are fulfilled.

Settings at teacher's transmitter MX-20 HoTT

On the MX-20 HoTT now channel 8 to control the camera mount and channel 5 for the trigger must be released to the pupil-transmitter.
In addition an unused switch has to be set on the transmitter to enable/disable it's function of the Trainer mode.

Here you need to proceed as described in the instructions:
- Press "SET" to enter the menu.
- Down to the menu point "Teacher / pupil" ...

- and open with SET.

Now here you can release channel 5 + 8 for the pupil-transmitter. In addition left below you select the desired switch for switching to "Trainer mode".

DONE

Settings at pupil-transmitter MX-16s

Now the pupil-transmitter must be adjusted. At this transmitter the throttle-stick shall be used to move the camera mount in Nick-direction.
To trigger the camera the button SW4/PB8 shall be used.

The easiest way is to get a new model memory to use those settings.

Here you need to proceed as discribed in the instructions:

  • - With a "click" on Enter you open the menu.

    - With Enter open the model memory ...

    - ... and select a free memory.

    - Save as Fixed-wing model .

    - The new created memory is directly active.

To use the throttle stick to control the camera mount you need to change one setting.

  • - Again with a "click" on Enter open the menu and change to base sett..

    - In the basic settings you can give the space memory a name (e.g. Camera ).

    https://gallery.mikrokopter.de/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=94009&g2_serialNumber=1

    - After that down to Receiver Output...

    https://gallery.mikrokopter.de/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=94011&g2_serialNumber=1

    - ... and place the throttle-stick on channel 8. Now you control channel 8 with the throttle-stick.

Finally you place the button SW4/PB8 to channel 5. In the Encoder Settings it can be done.
(Press and hold button otherwise the button will work as a switch (SW4) ).

Checking the functions

After both transmitter are set up you can/shall check the functions in the KopterTool.

How to use both transmitter:
First switch ON the trainer-ransmitter. Plug the TrainerMode cable into the DSC-Socket at the trainer-transmitter.
The other end of the cable you connect to the DSC-Socket at the pupil-transmitter.

{i} The pupil-transmitter switches ON automatically.

As soon as at the trainer-transmitter the switch for the TrainerMode is been switched, the two channels out of the example are transferred to the pupil-transmitter.

Is the Kopter hooked up to the KopterTool you can check on the function in the settings of the KopterTool under "Channels" .
Is now the throttle-stick been moved at the pupil-transmitter the display at channel 8 should move. If you push the button, the channel 5 should show reaction.
If you switch the TrainerMode button back both functions (channels) should be back to trainer-transmitter.
